As a resident working within your program, you are covered under the registration of your training hospital or institution. When you’ve finished your preparation, you’ll need to get your own DEA registration. If you want to work outside of your curriculum while still a citizen, you’ll need your own registration.
Go to www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov to apply online. Make a note of the control number while applying online. You can usually go online (click on “Check the Status of My Application”) after one business day to edit your online application or find out whether it has been accepted, released, or renewed. The DEA number of an applicant can be found and verified in a variety of ways. To begin, make a phone call to the applicant’s office and ask for this information. If this isn’t possible for some reason, go to the DEA database. Create a user account at DEANumber.com and select a weekly, monthly, or quarterly subscription.
Then, go online and do a DEA search. Another choice is to contact the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and inquire about a particular license. This method can also be used for DEA verification.
If you already have this number but aren’t sure if it’s accurate, contact the Drug Enforcement Administration and ask for a DEA lookup. You may also use the DEA database to accomplish this. Simply type the license number into the box provided. If it is invalid, the message “No results found” will appear.
